Today is Teacher Appreciation Day—the day that we set aside to thank teachers for all you do. But how can I possibly thank each and every teacher that has made a difference in my life? I haven’t been able to answer that question; however it is my hope that each of you sees yourself reflected in this personal expression of gratitude for who you are and what you do.
Dear Teacher,
Thank you for coming to school today. You are always here and you always smile at me. Thank you for making me feel safe, because I know you will take care of me. Thank you for making me feel special, even when I don’t know the right answer. Thank you for talking to me during recess so I don’t have to be alone. Thank you for reading to me so I can learn new things. Thank you for teaching me to read so I can read even more books. Thank you for being my teacher.
Thank you for coming to school today. I am going through some stuff at home and I needed a place to be safe. I know I am safe with you. Thank you for letting me try lots of things so I can find something I can be good at. Thank you for teaching me to always do the best I can so I can be the person I am meant to be. Thank you for teaching me that reading and learning can create endless possibilities, opportunities, and paths so I can make a difference in the world. Thank you for being my teacher.
Thank you for coming to school today. Thank you for teaching me that circumstances of birth do not determine circumstances of living. Thank you for your compassion in showing me that families may look different, but they are still filled with love. Thank you for supporting me to be a kind, successful, and productive citizen who takes responsibility for my actions and makes the world a better place. Thank you for being my teacher.
Thank you for coming to school today. Thank you for teaching me, for teaching my children, for teaching my grandchildren. Thank you for setting the bar high and continuing to encourage me to be all that I can be. I will continue to strive to live up to the legacy those before me have left and the example you set today. Thank you for exemplifying integrity, while honoring the dignity of all people. You are the reason I am honored to be called “teacher.” Thank you for what you do every single day to help children become who they are meant to be. Thank you for being a teacher.
From my heart to yours: Thank you!
